SPRING CUP VICTORY FOR MARTIN & TYCO BMW

Spring National Cup

Guy Martin gave Tyco BMW their first victory with the all-new S 1000 RR at Scarborough on Saturday, and the Lincolnshire man went on to lift the main prize at the meeting – the Spring Cup – after finishing fourth on Sunday in treacherous conditions.

Speaking afterwards Martin said: “It’s our first race in anger on the BMW Motorrad machine, and considering the conditions were not very appealing; yeah… we did a damn good job. Granted we still have work to do, but as I said in Spain during the test – what a great bike, we just need to work on finding the sweet spot. But a win’s a win and the trophy they all came for was the Spring Cup and it’ll be sitting on Philip Neill’s sideboard today, so job done.”

Team Manager Philip Neill added: “There are quite a few Oliver’s Mount specialists these days and with Guy having won so many races at Scarborough, he’s a big scalp, so to take a win and the Spring Cup overall is very satisfying. As Guy said, we still have a bit of work to do, but it’s hard to complain when you are standing on the top step. Full credit to Guy and Mark for working well together this weekend in tough conditions, and to BMW Motorrad – hopefully this is the first of many victories this season with the S 1000 RR in Tyco BMW livery.”
